STUDENT RESEARCH PROGRAM: SRP 99 SRP 99 is 1-2 units Pass/Not Passed. You must enroll in 12 units of coursework on top of SRP 99.
Step 1: Find a Faculty Mentor You must find a faculty sponsor first who has an Academic Senate title (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor) and doing research related to the brain if you want to go on to a Neuroscience 199 contract. Please see the above link for tips on finding a faculty sponsor. All SRP 99 courses are administered by the Undergraduate Research Center. Step 2: Create MyUCLA contract for SRP 99 under the department of your faculty mentor (I.e. Physci 99, Psych 99, MCDB 99) Step 3: Get faculty mentor signature on MyUCLA contract. Step 4: Turn in contract to the Undergraduate Research Center office in 2121 Life Sciences Building (click here for submission instructions). SRP 99 contracts are always due by 5pm Friday of Week 2.
NEUROSCIENCE 199A AND 199B Pre-reqs: Neuroscience M101A and at least one quarter of SRP 99 or 199 in the same neuroscience related research lab. Neuroscience majors and minors only. Non-majors and minor students should enroll in a 199 under the department of their mentor.
4 units each. Letter grade given at the end of Neuroscience 199B for 8 units. Grade for Neuroscience 199A stays "IP" for In-progress indefinitely but the 4 units still count towards your study list units. Neuroscience 199/198 contracts are only available in Fall, Winter, and Spring and must be taken in consecutive quarters (i.e. Winter and Spring, Spring and Fall, etc.) PLEASE NOTE: You may ONLY do Neuroscience 199AB OR Neuroscience 198AB ONCE. If you'd like to continue with your Neuroscience research, you may do Neuroscience 199C which may also only be taken once.
Neuroscience 199A: Step 1. Print off Neuroscience 199A contract from MyUCLA. Step 2. Complete Supplemental Outline - 198A/199A Supplemental Outline Instructions Step 2a. Include proof of completion of the Laboratory Safety Fundamental Concepts course if your contract requires it. (It will say "Safety Training" at the top of your MyUCLA contract) Step 2b. Faculty Directory Information (see Outline Instructions in Step 2 for an example). Step 3. Fill out Faculty Sponsor Form Step 4. Get Faculty mentor to sign BOTH the MyUCLA contract and a faculty sponsor form. If your major GPA is below a 3.0, please include or have your faculty mentor email the neuroscience advisors (email@example.com) a brief 2-3 sentence statement of support for your lab participation. You will not be enrolled unless this support statement is included or emailed. Step 5. Turn MyUCLA contract, faculty sponsor form, and supplemental outline to the CCLE WEBSITE by 4pm Friday of the Week 1.
A status report is due by Friday of Finals Week - See report directions at bottom of page. Students will receive a permanent In Progress (IP) grade on their transcripts

A final report is due by Friday of Finals Week - See report directions at bottom of page. Students must present a poster at the annual Neuroscience Poster Day in May. Students will receive an 8 unit letter grade at the end of the quarter, reflecting the work in the lab for the past two quarters and the quality of both reports.
NEUROSCIENCE 198A AND 198B (Neuroscience Departmental Honors Student Only)
Follow the same steps as Neuroscience 199A and 199B. Use the NS 198 faculty sponsor form. Make sure the contracts say "Neuroscience 198A/B" - not 199.
**If you are completing SRP 99, NEUROSCIENCE 199A/B, or NEUROSCIENCE 198A/B through a UCLA Health Sciences lab, please note UCLA Health Sciences now requires that you are dual processed through the UCLA Health Science Volunteer Office. The Undergraduate Research Center for SRP 99's and the Neuroscience IDP for NEUROSC 199AB/198AB ONLY needs the contracts and additional materials as outlined above. For UCLA Health Sciences processing steps, please visit https://www.uclahealth.org/Volunteer/ucla-health-sciences-volunteer-program.
